How it works
The FireMaple Petrel G3 pot features heat exchangers on the bottom to increase fuel efficiency, similar to a Jetboil pot at a lower weight. Compatible with three-pronged stoves that open to a 120° angle, the Petrol has slots at the bottom of the pot that fit over the stove supports. This places the stove burner closer to the pot and offers protection from wind, both of which increase fuel efficiency and boil times. Note: The Petrel is not compatible with four-prong stoves or the BSR 3000T (due to angle of stove supports).

My experience using the Petrel G3
In a test of boil times for several types of backpacking pots, the Petrel had a fast time – 1 min. 55 sec. to bring two cups (16 oz) of water to a full boil. It also performed well in wind, with the heat exchangers effectively blocking wind from the stove. I like the sturdy handle and the ability to store the fuel canister, stove, a fuel can stabilizer and a pack towel inside the pot. I consider this pot a great option on backpacking trips for the ability to need less fuel.
The only cons of this pot for me were that I find that it takes a bit of focus to get the pot lined up over the stove supports, and the lid has a tendency to get suctioned on when boiling water – which means waiting until it cools to safely remove the lid. Due to this, I place the lid at a slant when boiling water.

FireMaple GreenPeak stove
The GreenPeak stove is an ideal companion for the Petrel Pot, with support arms that easily fit in the slots on the Petrel to provide a stable base for the pot when cooking.
Featuring a high efficiency design with a 2800W output for fast boil times, and a piezo igniter for easy lighting, the GreenPeak is a powerful backpacking stove that also features a concave burner for protection from wind. The stove folds to a compact size for portability and comes with a stuff stack for storage.
My experience with the GreenPeak Stove
I found the GreenPeak to be extra powerful for a stove of this size. When lighting it, I barely turn the fuel regulator – just enough to hear gas coming from the fuel canister – then I push the igniter to light the stove. The high power capacity of this stove also means that you don’t need to turn up the flame much to bring water to a boil. This helps to conserve the amount of fuel used when cooking, while the fuel regulator allows for fine-tuning of the flame for everything from a slow simmer to a fast boil.
Overall, this stove feels well-built and sturdy. I like how the support arms can be easily folded/unfolded without fuss. And the concave burner provides good protection from wind, as I found out on a recent gusty night on a backpacking trip.
Used in combination with the Petrel Pot, this stove and pot set are incredibly fuel efficient and fast – and affordable at $43.90 for the set.
