Review: Flextail Tiny Pump 3X
A lighter, more powerful, and quieter update to Flextail’s compact 3-in-1 pump — it inflates, deflates, and doubles as a tent light, making it a practical choice for backpacking trips without adding much weight.
As sleeping pads continue to get thicker and larger, using a pump has become less of a luxury and more of a practical tool. It simplifies setup, saves time at camp, and avoids moisture buildup from breath inflation.
I primarily use it on backpacking trips to inflate my sleeping pad and pillow, along with using the built-in light in my tent. It also includes a deflate mode for vacuum bags as an additional feature, though I haven’t made use of it. On camping trips, I’ll also use it to top off my self-inflating camp mattress.

What I Like About the Flextail Tiny Pump
I’ve used the original Tiny Pump X for several years, and this version is a clear improvement — lighter, smaller, more powerful, and quieter. The added airflow is noticeable, and the reduced noise is especially welcome in the backcountry. It’s also about an ounce lighter than the previous version.
It comes with five nozzles that cover a wide range of sleeping pad valves and other inflatable gear like pillows and pool floats. I’ve used it with sleeping pads and pillows from Therm-a-Rest, Exped, and Zenbivy, and the included nozzles work across all of them. The nozzle adapters weren’t easy to attach to the pump at first, but after a few uses they now fit securely and consistently.
One of the standout features is the built-in light. A fold-out handle makes it easy to hang inside my tent using a small carabiner, and multiple brightness levels with two color temperatures make it surprisingly versatile. I typically use the lowest setting for ambient light and step it up to medium when organizing gear at night.

A nice detail is the ability to turn the light off by pressing and holding the button, instead of cycling through modes — something that’s especially useful for not getting blinded by the brightest settings at night. That said, the button can be hard to locate in the dark and I wish it included a button that was easier to use — I’ve accidentally pushed the pump button at night when I wanted to turn on the light.

The Flextail Tiny Pump 3X is well-designed upgrade that combines strong inflation performance with a useful integrated light — compact, lightweight, and easy to justify bringing on both camping and backpacking trips.
