Every year, new ultralight backpacking gear hits the market, promising lighter packs and smarter designs. As someone with a well-tested setup, I’m selective about adding anything new to my kit. But when a piece of gear offers a real performance advantage — saving space, cutting weight, or improving on existing designs — it’s worth a closer look. That’s what drew me to test several innovative ultralight accessories from Igneous.
NOBO Bottle
The first item I purchased from Igneous is the NOBO Bottle. In recent years, several companies have been rethinking the standard 1-liter disposable water bottle favored by many ultralight hikers. With growing concerns about microplastics and products that leach them, I wanted an alternative that was lightweight, durable, and fit easily into my pack’s side pockets for quick access. I also wanted a bottle made from a material known for long-term durability and minimal microplastic shedding.
The NOBO bottle is ultralight (2.1 oz) and made from HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which is more rigid and abrasion-resistant than the LDPE material used in disposable bottles, so it sheds far fewer microplastics over time. Its 28mm threaded opening works with most water filters for quick refills on trail, making it a great choice for longer hikes or backpacking trips.
Thoughtful design touches include the tethered cap with a small carrying loop, and measurement markings on the side. I especially like the shape of the NOBO, with a shorter height that prevents it from bumping into my arms when I’m hiking, and a wider base that adds stability when setting it down. Flexible enough to squeeze, the NOBO is also useful for backflushing a filter or attaching a bidet head, as shown below.

Bottle Cap Bidet
An essential part of my backpacking bathroom kit, this ultralight backcountry bidet helps me stay clean while cutting down on toilet paper. The Bottle Cap Bidet threads securely onto the outside of a standard water bottle opening, creating a targeted spray — and because it attaches externally, it won’t pop off under pressure like the push-in style bidets I’ve used. It’s tiny and extremely lightweight, weighing just 4 grams, so it’s easy to carry on any hiking or backpacking trip.

Hang System
The Hang System is a simple, effective accessory that makes setting up a gravity water filter much easier in camp. I used to rely on a short loop of cord, which meant hunting for a nail, stub, or just the right branch to hang my water collection bag. With this system, I can quickly wrap it around a tree, branch, or other anchor point and get my filter set up in seconds. The Hang System uses a thin, reflective cord paired with a compact cleat-style adjuster, so the filter can be hung securely without tying knots. It’s ultralight (7 grams), packs down small, and adds a lot of convenience to an otherwise fiddly camp chore.

Repair Kits
The Repair Spool is a compact and super light (32 grams) kit that brings several essential items together in one tidy package. It includes a short length of heavy-duty Gorilla Tape, durable nylon thread with a sewing needle, and purpose-built patches for clothing, tents, and inflatable gear. Everything stores neatly inside the spool, making it easy to handle common repairs without adding unnecessary bulk to your pack. I always keep one in my backpacking essentials ditty bag. For the minimalist, the UL Repair Spool (14 grams) is a smaller version that doesn’t include the repair patches.

Carbon Fiber Spool
I use the ultralight Carbon Fiber Spool for my tarp setup to keep all my guylines neatly organized. Weighing just 4.5 grams, it works with 1.5–2.5 mm cords and has multiple cleats that keep them secure, making spooling and accessing cords quick and easy.
