The Berghaus Fast Hike is a trail running-inspired pack with a vest-style harness that I use for day hikes when I don’t need to carry a lot of gear. Before trying a pack like this, I probably wouldn’t have considered something so minimal. After using it, though, I’ve really come to appreciate the lightweight, streamlined feel and freedom of movement while hiking. It rides close to the body, doesn’t bounce or shift around on trail, and feels less restrictive than a traditional daypack with more structure. As someone who has only used traditional daypacks for hiking, this pack has been a nice change.

Pack Features
The Fast Hike pack is frameless, but the back panel has enough cushioning to stay comfortable with a typical day hiking load. The vest-style harness, dual sternum straps, and updated “Limpet” compression system — a Berghaus design that uses side panels wrapping inward and connecting to the harness to pull the load closer to the body — work together to keep the pack stable on uneven terrain.
Instead of hip belt pockets, the vest-style shoulder strap system provides quick access to essentials while hiking. I use the zippered pocket for snacks, lip balm, and smaller items, while the other side has two mesh pockets that fit soft flasks, a phone, or a trail map. There’s also an external water-resistant pocket that I use for my wallet and car keys.
Even though it’s a minimal pack, the 15-liter capacity allows me to carry essentials like extra layers, snacks, a first aid kit, and other day-hike items.
The side water bottle pockets are easy to reach while hiking, so I can stay hydrated without stopping. There’s also an internal sleeve for a hydration bladder if that’s your preferred setup. I usually carry two bottles — one with electrolytes and one with plain water for drinking during longer trail breaks with snacks.
Overall, the Fast Hike 15 moves naturally on trail and feels light — I barely notice it on my back while hiking, making it my go-to pack for warmer weather hikes.
