The hoodie provides excellent sun coverage, with a higher neckline than other sun hoodies I’ve worn. Additional features include a streamlined, helmet-compatible hood, integrated thumb loops for keeping sleeves in place, and a zipper-free side pocket for small essentials.
I’ve worn this hoodie on multiple hikes and backpacking trips in hot weather, and it consistently kept me cool while allowing air to circulate freely. Even on steep ascents, it provided effective sun coverage without trapping heat — a combination that makes it stand out among other sun-protection layers.
While the lightweight knit excels in comfort and ventilation, it is less resistant to abrasion and may be more prone to snagging in rugged terrain. On a recent hike, the fabric caught on a few thorny shrubs during a rocky, overgrown descent, resulting in a few small snags but no holes.
Overall, I’ve found the Eclipse to be a well-fitting, comfortable layer that performs reliably on hot-weather hikes and backpacking trips.
