Performance on the Trail
I’ve worn this tee all summer on hikes, backpacking trips, and car camping, and it’s been an ideal choice thanks to its soft feel, looser fit, and excellent breathability. I’ve also been impressed with how well it handles sweat. The odor resistance is another big plus — merino can go multiple wears between washes, making it a great choice for backpacking trips.
Fabric & Construction
Part of Ibex’s GOAT collection, it uses a special knitting method where strong synthetic fibers are wrapped around the merino wool to make it more durable without losing comfort. This adds durability without sacrificing the softness that merino is known for. The fabric is lightweight and drapes nicely without clinging, which helps keep air flowing on hot days. It also provides UPF 50+ sun protection — an important feature when you’re hiking in exposed terrain. This isn’t my first Ibex piece — after more than a decade of wearing their merino wool bras, I can confidently vouch for the comfort and long-lasting durability.
Fit & Comfort
This tee has a relaxed, slightly loose fit that makes it easy to layer, and the cut is flattering without being restrictive. I especially like that it isn’t too tight across my hips, and the hem length is long enough to stay put under a hipbelt, so I’m not constantly adjusting my shirt while hiking.
Final Thoughts
At $85, the Ibex GOAT Short Sleeve Tee is definitely an investment piece. While it’s designed with hiking and active use in mind, it also works well for everyday wear with a clean, simple design and smooth fabric that look as good in town as on trail.
