Review: Kuhl Hiking Pants
The Kuhl Trekr and Freeflex hiking pants are made with high quality fabrics that have built-in stretch and are lightweight and comfortable to wear when hiking.
When buying hiking pants, I look for well-made products that use high quality fabric for durability. In my experience of wearing several different types of Kuhl pants, their products meet both criteria – plus they offer multiple stylish options and colors to choose from.
Kuhl Trekr Hiking Pants
The Trekr pants have a mid-rise, which is a nice change from pants that sit too low, and feature front pockets that are actually usable. Most women’s pants have pockets that are too small and can’t hold much of anything. These pants also have two back pockets with snap closures, and two zippered thigh pockets that hide another feature: the ability to cinch the sides to convert into capri pants.
For size reference, I’m 5’1″ 115 lbs. and I’m wearing a size 4 with 30-inch inseam. On me, this size is a bit on the roomy side and I may have been able to size down but I also don’t mind having them be slightly loose. Overall, I like the fit and style of these pants for hiking and backpacking.

Kuhl Freeflex Roll-up Hiking Pants
The Kuhl Freeflex hiking pants convert easily to capri pants with snaps on the sides. Like the Trekr pants, the fabric is soft and durable, while also featuring sun protection, quick drying, and moisture wicking properties. These pants include two front pockets, and two snap closure pockets on the back plus two cargo-style pockets on the sides. The fabric on these pants is slightly lighter weight and suitable for summer hiking.
For size reference, I’m 5’1″ 115 lbs. and I’m wearing a size 4 with 30-inch inseam. The Freeflex pants fit slightly tighter on me than the Trekr pants in the same size but have plenty of stretch for comfort.
