Review: Outdoor Vitals Skyline Trail Joggers
Built for hot-weather hiking, the Outdoor Vitals Skyline Trail Joggers feature mesh ventilation in key areas, keeping you cool while offering full-length protection.

I always hike in long pants, and the Skyline Trail Joggers from Outdoor Vitals are a great option for hot weather. They’re ultralight and highly breathable, and unlike a lot of warm-weather pants I’ve tried, they actually keep me cool on the trail without feeling like I’m sacrificing the comfort of shorts.
Features
- weight: 6.5 oz
- waistband: elastic with elastic drawcord
- pockets: 2 hip pockets, 1 zippered rear pocket
- hem: elastic
- mesh inserts: along the sides of both leges, in the gusseted crotch, and at the top of the back yoke
- fabric: stretch fabric treated with DWR finish for water resistance
- articulated knees

What is really unique about these pants is the ventilation — with diamond-pattern mesh inserts running the full length of the legs as well as mesh in the gusseted crotch and rear yoke to keep air flowing. I overheat easily and these pants are lighter than any I’ve previously worn and keep me much cooler when I’m hiking in hot weather. There are two front pockets without zippers (my personal preference for quick access) and one zippered back pocket for more secure storage.
The pants are designed with a relaxed fit, a touch of stretch, and articulated knees for unrestricted movement. Made with lightweight fabric, they offer UPF sun protection and are quick-drying and moisture-wicking.
What I don’t like is the shock cord at the top, which makes the pants feel too restrictive and tight around my waist. After removing the shock cord, they feel much more comfortable to me – and since there’s elastic around the waist, there’s no chance of them falling down. The only other downside is sizing — these are men’s sizes only, and while the fit is a little loose on me, it still works. I’d love to see a women’s-specific version in the future.

Bottom line: If you’re looking for lightweight, breathable hiking pants, the Skyline Joggers are a good choice — especially if you overheat easily like I do.
